Day 18: How to go to Palenque in Chiapas from San Cristóbal de las Casas
Today is one of the star days of the trip to Mexico in 45 days and it is for something as special as it is the day we are going to go to Palenque in Chiapas from San Cristóbal de las CasasFor tomorrow, finally visit this incredible corner of the world.

So, when it's 8 in the morning we return to the Hotel Posada El Zaguán for breakfast and at 9, take a taxi that takes us for 60 pesos to the Bus Station, the one that received us when we arrived from Guadalajara and that today will serve us as gateway to the impressive Palenque in Chiapas.

Punctual, when it's 10 in the morning we go out from San Cristobal de las Casas to Palenque in Chiapas in a journey in which the curves and reverie, in addition to the review of the itinerary of the next days of this trip to Mexico for free, have been the protagonists.

The anecdote of the day has come when the driver has announced that the journey was almost 9 hours, since the bus was going to make a detour stopping in Villahermosa, something that we did not know, thinking that he was going on a road we had read was quite bad for the situation and the curves, but for which the journey was 4 hours. Although this news we have no more than resignation and rethink the day, giving the day for the transfer to Palenque in Chiapas.

Buses that arrive in Palenque stop at the Mayan roundabout, right next to La Cañada, the area where most hotels in the town are located and only 150 meters from the bus stop. Being so close we do not consider taking a taxi although we have to say that the 30 degrees that receive us, are not the best company and less after having been these days with almost 20 degrees less.
Where to stay in Palenque in Chiapas
One of the doubts you will surely have when you consider visiting the archaeological zone of Palenque It is where to stay. There are several options in the town, among which we recommend:
- Palenque, magical town: farther from the archeological zone, but with more restoration options. Prices are more adjusted than in La Cañada or Palenque archaeological center.
- La Cañada: Urbanization species next to the Bus Station, where there is a selection of medium / high price hotels and a good variety of restaurants.
- Palenque archaeological site: Between Palenque town and the archaeological site, the distance between the two is 9 kilometers, we find several accommodation options, which are among the most expensive of the entire offer. Although the location can be spectacular, you have to keep in mind that being in the middle of the jungle, to move to the town you must have transportation or need a taxi.

After a quick shower and take the summer clothes out of the suitcase, we decided to go out to stretch our legs a little and take advantage of dinner and more after the day so long that we had, in which although we have not done anything, the hours of Bus have run out of us.
We opted to go to the Maya Canada Restaurant, which is right next to the hotel, where we ordered an octopus, more shrimp ceviche, beer, soft drinks and coffee for 600 pesos, which we have to say we feel wonderful, as well as being exquisite.

And so, when it's almost 10 at night we return to Hotel Chablis to rest and dream about tomorrow, the day we will finally meet the archaeological site of Palenque.
