Day 3: MONTEROSSO - CORNIGLIA - MANAROLA - RIOMAGGIORE - MONTEROSSO

Today the alarm rings at 7 in the morning and shortly before 8 we are already having breakfast in a room of our hotel in Monterosso, the Souvenir Hotel, with a breakfast that would delight anyone. Today we need to be charged with energy visit Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore in one day.

The day has dawned very gray like yesterday and even a few drops fall, so we will have to wait a while to see if it improves and start our tour of Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore in one day.

Reception of the Hotel de Monterosso

When we see that it has stopped sparkling, we will walk for a while in Monterosso, to the new area, waiting for it to be 10.29 in the morning, which is the time at which our train leaves for Corniglia, which will be our first stop of the day in the tour of Cinque Terre.

Details that attract our attention in Monterosso

When the time comes, we return to the train station of Monterosso and wait a few minutes until our train arrives, with which we will begin the tour by Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore in one day.

Here we notice how the accumulation of people who use this service has changed a lot, comparing it to when we took the train yesterday in La Spezia to reach Cinque Terre.

Train from Monterosso to Corniglia

Through the few clearings that are seen in the tunnels that we are going through, we see that the day is improving at times and we hope it will happen as yesterday that the day improved so much as the morning progressed.
We arrive in Corniglia and the first thing we have to do is climb the 300-odd steps that will give us access to the town.

Going up the stairs that will take us to Corniglia, with Manarola in the background

This is the best way to start the day you know Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore in one day.
After ten minutes of ascent we arrive at oldest town of Cinque Terre and we can say that getting lost in its streets is a spectacle for the senses.

Corners of Corniglia

Flowers at each door, smiles of the locals at each corner, craft shops on each street that invite you to enter, even if you don't want to buy anything, just for the exquisiteness with which they are decorated.

Corniglia streets

We are even lucky to meet a Pied Piper who plays a song exclusively for us at a village viewpoint.

A song inspired by nature. Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore in one day

Without doubt one of the most charming villages we have been lucky to meet.

After 12 in the morning, we decided that it is time to continue touring Cinque Terre, but first we go to the area opposite the center of town, from where you get unique panoramas of Corniglia.

After a good while shooting the camera, we started down again more than 300 steps to continue with our tour of Cinque Terre and meet the "Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore in one day" that we have imposed on today's itinerary.
We arrived at the station a few minutes before the arrival train that will take us from Corniglia to Riomaggiore.

We will skip the visit to Manarola that we will make on the way back to Monterosso, since we want to eat in Riomaggiore, in a sushi place that we have been recommended.
These days in Cinque Terre are a combination of travel with gastronomy, something we love to do and more in a country like Italy.
We arrive at Riomaggiore at 1 noon and we find again a town full of charm, which welcomes us with a blue tunnel of access to the town, which at least draws attention for its design.

Newcomers to Riomaggiore

Before going to know the town, we make a brief stop at Il Pescato Cucinato, one of the most recommended to eat fried fish cones and ask for a large squid cartridge for 9 euros with which we will kill hunger for now 😉
What to say? What you can not miss if you come to Riomaggiore. It is delicious.

After this little stop, we continue with our visit to Riomaggiore, on the tour of Cinque Terre, discovering another of its charming villages.

Riomaggiore streets

When we see that it is already two in the afternoon and the hunger is pressed again, we go in search of the sushi place, which coincidentally is just in front of the squid and we eat a tray of tuna urimaki for 10 euros. The truth is that being in Italy, it is a sacrilege not to feed ourselves with Italian cuisine, but since we traveled to Japan, we have become addicted to its gastronomy and try to taste it wherever we can.

Sushi in Riomaggiore

Today is going to be a pecking day, trying here and there. Something that will also allow us to have different visions of the many places where they advise to eat in this area of Italy.
And after lunch and being in Italy we can not miss the time of the express, so we go to a cafeteria in search of our desktop.
With the freshly charged batteries, we go to the sea area of Riomaggiore and we find some views that seem taken from a postcard.

Typical streets of Riomaggiore

Undoubtedly this area of Italy is to come to enjoy it for more days and raised as a vacation, where more relax and not the route, as we are doing now.

Riomaggiore Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore in one day

Once we reach the sea area, we find a path that, after taking a stretch and going down some stairs, gives you access to one of the best views of Riomaggiore. Here we take the opportunity to rest for a while and enjoy privileged views of Cinque Terre.

At 4 in the afternoon we decided that the time has come to return to our tour of Cinque Terre and we return to the station where we take a train from Riomaggiore to Manarola, the last of the towns we have left to know about Cinque Terre.
As we mentioned yesterday, the train is the perfect transport to travel Cinque Terre: fast, punctual and above all comfortable.
Upon arrival in Manarola, we follow the directions of Via dell'Amore, even knowing that it is closed for what we were told the first day, but we do not want to leave without checking it out for ourselves. And how could it be otherwise, after 3 minutes walking, we found the closed cartel that we expected.
So we have to turn around and go towards the center of Manarola, to discover the last of the Cinque Terre villages.
In these moments the heat begins to tighten more and more, so we decided that it is best to make a technical stop again and have a soda that hydrates us to continue with the afternoon.
We love this area of Italy. Without hesitation for a second, it is worth getting here.
After this little stop, we go to the Manarola viewpoint that gives us the postcard views that we have seen so many times and that are some of the best known of Cinque Terre.

Manarola views

We enjoy this moment as children and more because although we are not alone, because it is an hour when people are just eating or resting, the place is much more empty than we expected.

One of the best known views of Manarola. Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore in one day

Here we want to make a subsection and that is that when we told ourselves that the trails were closed we came "the trip to the ground" since we thought about everything we had read, that the views we see on the wallpaper and postcards of the Cinque Terre villages We could only see them through them.
Today and after seeing everyone personally, we can say that we have seen all the postcard images.
The only one for which we had to access a trail was yesterday, for the views of Vernazza and we really only had to do 100 meters of trail (which was the only one that was open).
For this reason, if you find them closed, you do not like hiking or you simply do not want to visit them, from the same villages, accessing the different viewpoints, you can have the perspectives that appear on the postcards.

That said we continue with the travel diary. It is already six in the afternoon, we decided to return to Monterosso. Our train leaves at 18.22 and after 10 minutes, we arrive at the town of Cinque Terre that hosts us.
Before going to the hotel to take a shower before dinner, we go to the new part of town, where we went this morning to see the perspective of Cinque Terre from Monterosso.

Walking along the beach of Monterosso, with the Cinque Terre villages in the background

It's 8 in the afternoon when we leave the hotel. Tonight we want to have pasta dinner, so we go straight to find a restaurant where we can pay homage

Streets of Monterosso. Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore in one day

We ended up in an osteria where we ordered a couple of pasta and water dishes for 25.50 euros. The site is called L'Osteria and although the food is not bad, the environment is not what we like most, because it is too noisy and part of the service is not entirely to our liking, so we can not recommend it since we do not we would go back
And after this dinner and a walk through the streets of Monterosso, we go to the Hotel Souvenir to sit for a while in their patio before going to sleep, where how could it be otherwise these days, they have a television screen on , where there is more than one guest watching the World Cup held in Brazil.
While Roger spends those minutes watching the game, I can only get lost among new travel ideas, mentally reviewing all the places I have in mind. A pleasure for the senses just think about it.

Today we have many images with which to go to bed.
