If you only know Verona about Juliet's tit, we are going wrong. This city is very veneta, but that very, beautiful and well worth a whole day to be discovered. Come on, since you're here, you can play Juliet's tit, they say she brings luck, it's also free. Here are our 20 things to see and do in Verona:

1. The main thing is to get to know one of the most beautiful and best preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world: the Verona Arena. It was built in the first century and had a capacity for about 30,000 people, freaks out! Admission is € 6. Tip: if you want to visit the main attractions of the city, you may want to buy the Verona Card (includes tickets without queue and public transport as well).

2. And then yes, let's touch the tit of Juliet's statue. It is as it could not be otherwise, in Giulietta's House, and be careful because the site belongs to those who may disappoint. First you will have to cross a porch full of shabby and ugly love notes (there are even chewing gum with loving messages), and then make a long line waiting for your turn to get more shine if it fits the most famous tit in Italy.

3. After touching Juliet's tit is the option to enter the house-museum, and peek into the famous balcony where the daughter of the Capuletos and Romeo declared their love (let's see, it's just a story, don't get too excited). Worth? I would say no, but with the € 6 entry you can visit the rest of the rooms of a 16th-century house, with decoration, furniture and objects of the time.

4. An unforgettable experience is to attend a concert or show in the Arena. They say it can be one of the best acoustic sites in all of Europe, so goosebumps are guaranteed. You can check dates and events here.

5. Go through Piazza Bra, a huge square full of emblematic buildings like the Barbieri Palace (nothing more and nothing less than the city hall), the Palace of the Great Guard and a few coffee shops where you can relax with a coffee. And of course, there is also the Verona Arena!

6. Did you know that in Verona there is a river? It is the Adige and there are two bridges that you should cross to get a beautiful view: the Stone bridge (visit the nearby Roman Theater) and thePonte Scaligero that reaches the Castelvecchio, a medieval castle that will transport you to the golden age of Verona.

7. If you travel to Verona during the Christmas time, you can't stop trying the pandoro, one of the richest desserts in Italy (I will never understand why the panettone is very famous abroad and the pandoro is not, it is much better!).

8. If you want to do some shopping, the streets of Via Giuseppe Mazzini Y Via dei Pelliciai They are excellent options. In addition, you will arrive at another great treasure of Verona ...

9.… the Piazza delle Erbe, which for us is the prettiest in Verona (sorry, Plaza Bra). Here are a few buildings worth mentioning: the Lamberti Tower, the Maffei Palace and the Gardello Tower.

10. Another place that seems very beautiful is the Piazza dei Signori, where a statue of Dante stands out, yes, that of the Divine Comedy and father of the Italian language. And what does a statue of Dante do in Verona? Well, the great poet had to leave his beloved Florence and spent a good season in this city. To get here from Piazza delle Erbe, all you have to do is cross the Arc de la Costa since the squares are neighboring.

11. Cross the Porta Borsari, the main access to the city at the time of the Roman Empire and that today maintains its monumentality (eye rose in the first century, almost nothing!).

12. The other great doors of Verona are thePortoni della Bra, attached to the Pentagon Tower and that correspond to part of the old medieval wall that surrounded the city. Its two large arches give access to the Piazza Bra. By the way, if you want to see another section of the walls, approach Via Pallone.

13. Take a spritz in the Osteria del Bugiardo, that although in Italian means “liar”, nothing of lies: it is the best spritz of the city.

14. And obviously, try the local cuisine. You can see our recommendations of 7 cheap restaurants where to eat in Verona.

15. If you want to enjoy the best panoramic view of Verona and you are not afraid of a good climb, come closer to the Castel San Pietro * _ * The sunset from there is w-o-w

16. Very close to Castel San Pietro is the Verona Roman Theater. Data neither more nor less than the s. I a.C. Although only one grandstand is preserved, it is one of the most important monuments of the city. In summer it is the scene of some shows.

17. You know that in Italy there is no shortage churches and Verona is no exception, although if you want to visit the most beautiful, write down these names:

  • Duomo di Verona (Cathedral of Santa Maria Matricolare), with its super colorful interior.
  • Basilica di San Zeno, one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Italy and where, according to Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet married.
  • Chiesa Di San Fermo Maggiore, which reminds us a little of Santa Maria Novella from Florence.
  • Chiesa di Sant'Anastasia, with an interior of the most striking.
  • Parrocchia di San Giorgio In Braida, which boasts an imposing facade.

18. Go in search of the maze in the Giardino dei Giusti. Legend has it that if two lovers manage not to get lost there, their love will last forever. Mmm, I don't know, uh ...

19. Visit the Arche Scaligere, a gothic-style funeral monument dedicated to some members of the Scaligeri family.

20. If you have time during your visit to Verona, do not hesitate to make an excursion to Lake Garda, much less known than Lake Como, but just as fascinating 🙂 And of course, if you love Amusement Parks, you have to go to Gardaland (it is the largest and most famous in Italy).
